FRAMING PRESENCE

EMBODIED PRESENCE IN THE HIPERREAL CITY – CHALLENGING SURVEILLANCE: FOR AN EMBODIED PARTICIPATION IN THE EU

On the weekend 26th-28th of June in Matadero-Intermediae, Madrid, the second workshop of the project ETP took place, with the support of Medialab Prado and organised by Reverso.
In the workshop took part 30 local participants as well as over 15 representants of the four partners of the project from Dresden, Prague, Norrköping, Nürnberg and New York.
The workshop was a platform of experimentation for novel notions and techniques of telepresence, attempting to work on abstract and amorphous notions of presence that defy the strategies of simulation of capitalism and media culture.
From the workshop a group of over 20 local participants has developed, that will be linked to the project’s development. The group has met already in July 1st and 16th, discussing notions of identity vs. presence, affect vs. emotion, surveillance and control, and the possibilities to put into motion abstract modes of sexuality through the amorphous relational aesthetics in the project.
Experimentation was focused on sound interaction through parameters of proximity. Framing presence was one of the leading subjects of the workshop, which was attempted through putting defined objects in the interactive space.
The group will work towards public presentations in March 2010 in Madrid, developing the prototypes for a networked performance-installation.
